ABB, as one of the most Avant grant energy saving technological companies in the world, has extended its footprint in China and Hong Kong in the past several decades. This is a new interior project in Hong Kong which calls for a hybridization of showroom, social and office space. In planning such complex functional requirement in such a small space, a very systemic and clear functional demarcation technique is needed. In response to the low budget of around 2 million dollars in catering E/M facilities, access control provision, loose furniture and all interior fitting out, a good selection and mix use of material, color and texture is a must to create a modern and trendy design.

The project reinforces ABB branding image by delivering a modern, neat and yet forward looking multi-functional space. The careful mix of working, social, meeting and exhibition functions provides a fresh and dynamic space for client interaction and internal working mode.

The space mix with exhibition (multimedia showcase), leisure and interactive space (pantry and leisure seating) and flexible working area (hot desk). The exhibition comprises with poster showcase and LED. Visitors can sit on the pouffe reviewing the video clips and content to get a better understanding of ABB technology. Lighting can be adjusted with intensity and lighting tone to different mood and mode. At the back with be the hot desk and mobile phone booth for two people. Support space of pantry and storage are just next to it for easy catering and storage. Such design cleverly balances each function and provides a stylistic and efficient showroom and working space.

This project fosters a hybridization of exhibition, working, leisure and social space seamlessly. It deliver a possibility of mixing distinct functions and needs, challenging the traditional working space and exhibition format.

The project is in charge by four core teams including interior, E/M and QS. In the beginning, the design team will collaborate closely with the client to provide options of layout, 3D rendering, and material sample to settle the design proposal. Once confirmation is granted, the project management team will work with E/M engineers and QS to have construction drawing and quotation for client approval. During construction stage, designers and engineers will closely monitor the project progress to ensure due completion. Regular and ad-hoc meetings will arrange to ensure effective communication to solve site problems.

1. The construction fee is 2 million with 2-month construction time. 2. The interior fitting out part of the ABB Hong Kong workshop is designed by DPWT Design Ltd. 3. The design process of the workshop is as follows: 1) Site inspection and discussion with client: DPWT conduct site inspection to have an understanding of site condition. Communication with the client to understand their needs and prepare the onwards design concept. 2) Layout plans and renderings: According to the result of site survey and communication with the client, DPWT then prepare the drawings and renderings with internal review. The final confirmation is granted after around 3-4 presentations. 3) Construction drawings and selection of materials: the construction drawing was prepared after the approval of layout plans and renderings by client. 4) Phasing of construction: regular site inspection is conducted on a weekly basis. 5) Completion of construction and opening: the outcome receives very positive feedback from clients.

The project inception to completion is in an extremely tight schedule of 3 months. During this period, numerous meetings, presentations and discussions are conducted at the same among designer, engineer, client and other vendor including furniture, carpet, and security. The due completion of this project is convincing evidence of a well-organized project and design team.
