Project Description
This is a suction-assisted handheld garment steamer designed to comprehensively reinvent the user experience of traditional handheld steamers. Based on an in-depth review of the first-generation suction architecture, our team focused on reconstructing the internal airflow system and advancing noise-reduction technology, significantly improving steam penetration efficiency while effectively reducing operating noise. These innovations fundamentally address the common issues of low ironing efficiency and disruptive user experience. In terms of visual design, we moved away from the homogeneous styling typical of conventional products. Instead, the product’s exterior form was innovatively shaped to directly communicate its powerful suction capability, transforming functional performance into a distinctive visual language. This approach externalizes the product’s technological advantages through expressive functional aesthetics, creating a highly recognizable identity that unifies engineering innovation with modern industrial design.
User Value
Compared with similar products that focus primarily on cosmetic appearance updates, this garment steamer achieves systematic innovation across core performance, acoustic quality, and aesthetic design. The result is a more efficient, quieter, and design-driven professional garment care experience for users.
Business Performance
From a commercialization standpoint, this design not only elevates the product’s aesthetic premium, but also reduces tooling costs by 30% and increases mass-production assembly efficiency by 50% through optimization of the internal structure and the split design of exterior components. This creates substantial gross margin headroom and a strong price competitiveness after the product is launched, while significantly boosting overall production line efficiency.
Social Impact
Drawing on insights into the evolving family structures and the friction caused by tedious household chores, we employ suction ironing technology to streamline the garment care process, making it effortless and efficient. This reclaims personal time once consumed by trivial tasks, reduces domestic friction, and steers ironing products toward designs that are more emotionally considerate of the user.
Team Structure
More than 10 full-time members from the Industrial Design, Technology R&D, Strategic Marketing, and Marketing departments participated in this project.
Flow
In terms of industrial design, the project achieved a seamless integration of form and function through close collaboration between the R&D and Industrial Design teams. A unified and standardized design language was also established for external components such as the water tank, enabling design consistency and modular reuse across future product lines. This approach improves production efficiency while reducing tooling and mold development costs.
Project Investment
The project is planned with a full R&D cycle of 13 months and is currently in the core CMF (Color, Material, Finish) process commissioning and quality inspection phase. To ensure flawless realization of the “refined and professional” visual design, the preliminary stage has already undergone more than five rounds of visual-effect iteration and high-precision prototype verification, striving to achieve a 100% high-fidelity reproduction of the design in final mass production.
Project Achievements
In line with the company’s strategic plan to upgrade and deepen the technical solutions for the “suction garment steamer,” this project has achieved a product iteration that features an improved air duct, stronger suction, and lower cost, further elevating the product experience and strengthening its competitiveness.
