It’s not just a suitcase - the Bugaboo Boxer is a modular luggage system. The system of interlocking cases is a solution to ergonomic problems that tend to happen when pulling a regular suitcase. Being able to load different configurations of cases onto the chassis means you can customize the system depending on your travel style; light or fully loaded. We wanted a smooth silhouette and contemporary design that would have the same design appeal as our stroller portfolio. We think the combination of high-performance plastics and aluminum in the chassis together with the use of modern and durable fabrics for the organizer and the lining of the suitcases creates a balanced design to which a consumer can easily get attached to.

Whether you’re a mom of three taking on life in the city or taking your third airline flight this week, you should be able to get there and back effortlessly without anything holding you back. By creating a revolutionary luggage product, we establish that Bugaboo is a mobility brand that goes beyond strollers to be an authority on movement.

We created a durable chassis that can for lifetime, and additional low-tech cases and bags which can be attached to the chassis. When needed, new versions or styles can be purchased. We hope provide a more sustainable offering to the market.

The development of the Bugaboo Boxer was done by a close team from a number of different disciplines, including design, engineering, marketing, quality, compliance and styling. We were led by our fearless project management team, according to our internal Bugaboo processes. During the early phases of the project, we consulted external experts on ergonomics and the business of selling luggage. Naturally we encountered some bumps along the road, but we are still very satisfied that the project was completed within agreed timelines and budget. Now we are working on the next additions to the Bugaboo Boxer luggage system.

We brought the effortless push steering that parents know and love to our revolutionary luggage system. As sketched in the concept, the Bugaboo Boxer is a collapsible 4-wheel chassis to which you can attach different sized and types of cases. The cases can be reconfigured in seconds. Every detail was carefully designed to meet the needs of today’s travelers: from the elastic strap that secures a coat, the click-on / click-off organizer that keeps essentials close, or the wide-grip height-adjustable handle, it’s the little things make a big impact. In order to achieve this outcome, the team has made loads of mock-ups, designs and prototypes in so-called ‘rapid learning cycles’, so the design of the total product could evolve quickly and efficiently.

When we started our exploratory research into new mobility concepts in 2006, we were leveraging a lot of knowledge about transporting precious cargo (children). But the luggage market was new for us. From the moment we sketched out our first rough ideas until launch was more than 3 years. We aren’t at liberty to say our exact investment in the project, but over the course of several years we established a team of experts to regularly build new prototypes, carry out a host of technical tests and validate our design concept with consumers.

We set out to take the “lug” out of luggage. Our goal was to offer consumers a new way of traveling: smooth and effortless instead of a struggle. We wanted to create a system, not just a suitcase. This system would adapt to the needs of the different kinds of travelers by being modular. By introducing the Bugaboo Boxer, we want to establish that Bugaboo is a global mobility brand, not just a company that makes amazing strollers. In the future we’ll offer an even broader range of exciting mobility products – stay tuned.
