Located in the Huangdao District of Qingdao, the 800-square-meter private club is designed under the sky-and-the-sea theme. By adopting meticulous elements arrangement and color schemes, lively scenes of clouds, sky, and deep sea have been created to immerse viewers into the cultural customs of the seaside city for physical and mental fatigue relief. The control of light and shadow further hazy and dreamy sense of the project, which transforms sky-and-the-sea scene unconsciously. The light also mobilizes the five senses in a multi-layered interactive way for the emotional and character cultivation.

With a large number of natural elements as the main building material, the project combines the native vein texture and the warm texture of marble for a harmonious blend of architecture and nature and sets a tranquil and calm tone. The design team has forgone the introduction of natural light and opted for a yellow and blue wall of lights as the main lighting, and reduce the sense of dazzle through the cutting of the frame for the soft colors of light to mobilize the five senses of consumers and inspire images of the beach and the sea. The soft curves that run through the whole area resemble clouds and waves, and together with the jellyfish lights that resemble clouds as secondary lighting, the design creates a link with the brushwork painted on the main dark blue wall. The linkage of the wave pattern, jellyfish, and rock painting creates a sense of immersion in the deep sea, while the interplay of the cloud pattern, the clouds (lamp), and the painting of a crane on the main wall create an ethereal feeling of swaying in the sky. In addition, the ceiling surface is designed with concave and convex mirrors to form a dappled light effect with the interior lighting, giving the project a sense of fantasy. Meanwhile, the design will present an irregular expression of light with the movement and stillness of the interior, enabling the reproduction and transformation of a relatively abstract scene to become more natural and harmonious, bringing consumers an immersive experience unconsciously.

As a private club project with a high consumption level, the project is not only limited to conventional dining and leisure but also to bring a harmonious business environment for consumers while providing an endorsement for their respective social status, personal ability, and resources. Within three months of opening, thanks to the harmonious and private environment, the application of traditional culture, and the continuation of the classical meeting model, the project has been able to expand and collect contacts from elites from different industries while fully disseminating the brand concept and highlighting the unique culture of the coastal city. By providing a harmonious and tranquil platform, the club effectively eliminates the barriers between different industries to help consumers exchange information and resources during dining together, and to a certain extent has positive significance for the development of Huangdao New District.

Unlike conventional modern interiors, the design team draws inspiration from the currently popular wabi-sabi style and traces to its source to create an interior design style with a unique oriental charm. Through the perfect fusion of local cultural elements and natural materials, the design team has been able to showcase the local culture while fully reflecting the quiet elegance of traditional Chinese culture. Meanwhile, different from the reproduction of conventional rigid and monotonous scenes, this project brings a more immersive multi-sensory experience through the smart use of light and shadow and smooth scene transformation to provide an immersive experience while alluding to the great wisdom of "unity of heaven and human" and the "the “lesser hermit” lives in seclusion in the country, the “greater hermit” does so in the city." The project breaks the phenomenon of uniformity in the traditional decoration industry with positive significance to the development of new Chinese design and the spread of traditional culture.

There are six full-time members involved in this project, of which Li Jie is the construction manager and is responsible for the overall layout and structural design of the project. Zhang Weina, who is responsible for planning and marketing, is in charge of screening and adjusting the project based on multiple market information to ensure that the aesthetics of the target clients and the design style of the clubhouse are followed in real-time. And Ge Yuanyuan, the assistant, is responsible for the coordination of the project and the consistency of the market information and project. Wang Mao and Pu Jiao were involved in the design of the HVAC and strong and weak electrical circuits for the project respectively. In addition, professional lighting artist Wang Jiamin guided the lighting effect for the project during the late stage of the supporting facilities preparation.

The design of the Ethereal Habitat is a new Chinese style that is reversed based on the popular Wabi-sabi style, which is an innovative and bold attempt. The design team was equally bold and meticulous during the design and construction of the project, ranging from the project type planning and determination of tasks nature at the beginning of the project to the individual roles of each member of the project at each stage. Additionally, we also integrated information through frequent drawing audits, regular meetings, and daily work summaries to adjust the project plan in real-time, while we also applied a large number of new techniques, equipment, and new materials during the construction process. This may seem tedious on a micro level, but on a macro level, we have achieved significant improvements in cost, quality, service, and efficiency of the project, which adapts to the core strategy of 'Customer, Competition and Change' to the greatest extent. Ethereal Habitat meets the needs of its target customers in various ways thanks to its creativity, aesthetics, humanity, and comfort.

The project took a total of ten months from inception to delivery, including two months for the final design paper and eight months for construction, with a capital scale of $2.4-3.5 million for basic hardware and $2-3 million for post-construction ancillary facilities.

The project is designed to provide an interactive environment for politicians, successful businessmen, and other social elites from different industries to cultivate their spirituality amid a fast-paced life to meet the needs of the target group on a spiritual level. It is also in the immersive scenario created in Ethereal Habitat that clients can let go of their tiredness and utilitarian mindset in the immersive experience and negotiate and communicate more harmoniously for the coordination of network expansion and resource information. Additionally, the entertainment and maintenance of the target client base are, to a certain extent, in line with our strategic development planning for the future. Through communication with the target client base, designers can expand their horizons and sublimate themselves in the immersion of knowledge and update in multiple fields for better future client service.
