The client is in the business of operating a chain of Chinese restaurants catering to wedding banquets in Hong Kong and its initial brief was to create a new dining experience focusing on glamorous and hotel ballroom-like design atmosphere. The client has also requested to use “sea theme” in its design concept for this premises as part of its Chinese name which is synonymous with “sea”. Our design intend is to create a space that is a reflection of the client’s demand while incorporating Chinese wedding banquet heritage and elements. For the light trough we have use “fish” as its design concept as part of the clients request for sea theme, creating a flow of fish movement in the sea and we had kept the design concept to the flooring carpet as well, trying to stimulate the sea wave movement. Traditionally copper color is often link with glamorous and festive. Hence, we had use highlighted stainless-steel copper colored for the side panel and used LED warm white ambiance color to accentuate the glamorous atmosphere of the premise. The ambiance color can be switch to blue to further accentuate the sea design theme. Currently the premise has a loft design room which is use to store tables and chairs. We had decided to convert the room into a bridal resting room, which also acts as a party room for guest who wish to mingle around during the dinner banquet. Again, we had kept the continuity of design language flowing through these rooms, using copper colored mirror and custom-made stainless steel to highlight the room design and using warm white lighting to set the mood for the room. We kept the lines of the room to be simple and use laminated timber flooring as diversity in material elements for the design. To avoid monotony, we try to balance the same design language while creating a transition from room to room by adding different elements of designs such as the contrast mosaic design flooring with traditional Chinese emblem for the changing room. As for the washroom, the client wanted something different and yet practical, hence we had decided to add the contrast of the design and use mosaic tiles that is durable and practical as mosaic tiles are slip resistant compare to conventional tiles and its easier to maintain. We had use marble patterns for the wall as part of the diversity in elements of texture and patterns while maintaining glamorous design concept In harmony of the new design language for the restaurant chain, we had applied the same design language but with minor alterations to the design for other premises. For a different premise, we had use random wave design to create the flow of wave and water movement of the ceiling in hope to achieve an aesthetically glamorous atmosphere while adding depths to its design. Again, we use LED lighting to play with the mood of the restaurants and can be switch from warm white to blue. For the party room in this premise, we had intended to create a contrast of lines and forms by using a straight line timber flooring and geometric ceiling, accentuated with copper highlight of stainless steel throughout the walls.
