The brief was to design the best earbuds that ever existed. Over the course of 12 months, thousands of conversations took place with earbud users across the country to discover the key problems. During this time, we found a common group of themes among the frustrations you shared; we also learned that the industry leaders producing some of the most common and popular earbud models were neglecting to address these concerns. The five most common frustrations with earbuds included: 1. Comfort and fit. 2. Sound quality. 3. Battery life. 4. Sweat/Water durability. 5. Fashion.

Resolved all the major problems with existing earbuds. Better comfort and fit due to thinner earbuds, better sound quality because the earbuds have more volume for acoustics. longer battery life because the components and battery are outside the ear, better waterproofing due to the finish and the location of the sensitive components, moving the components outside of the earbud allows for a unique fashion statement to be made.

Also due to location the neck registers the weight of the components much less than the sensitivity of the ears so the unit feels lighter. To create a design that was easy to distinguish as from others out there, whilst carefully looking at the problems of existing earbuds. By going back to the beginning and asking what would be the best way to do something rather than how to improve what already exists, we were able to think in a new way. An earbud that is so slim there is no gravitational force outside of the ear will stay in during the most extreme workout. What makes existing earbuds fall out is the weight outside of the ear. By shifting the battery and other components out of the earbud and onto the neck means the buds have more room for acoustics and cannot fall out. The weight of the battery actually cause a more positive lock in the ear. Designing the battery boxes were then about create the most effective form.
