MIXPACE Mandela, is the predecessor of a 4 floored old rivet factory. In the darkest spot there was only 0.1 hours where light can shine through the open windows. The former internal space and light did not fully meet the freedom that comes together in a coworking office space. A creative coworking space is a place that represents freedom, community, and openness. Therefore, during the renovation period, the space was transformed and changed into what it is today. A space full of vitality and freedom, which could only have stemmed from its original design. Designers have taken levels 2, 3, 4 and built a dome leading to the roof. Once on the fourth floor, one is met by complete skylight and openness. This expansion of natural light has offered rays of sunshine to spaces that otherwise would never have seen the sun. The unique four story atrium and its rotating staircase has become the light of the entire space and it’s social center. The original concrete walls and building textures have been completely reserved and these things combines are what forms Mandela’s claim to fame. Beautiful shadowing, old walls, open glass, and an antique heritage bring a type of museum affect to Mandela and also brings one closer together to historic relics.

1.In order to have our guests feel the freedom and comfortability of this working space, we transformed the space from the inside out. Each MIXPACE space is divided into three modules: an open reception area with a front desk and coffee shop; distributed conference rooms, speech communication and community function space; closed + open office spaces for all paces of work life and style. 2.To meet all the diverse needs of life, our spaces supply not only work functions but play and rest areas as well, including the following: outdoor gardens, workout facilities, sleeping cubicles, play slides and shower rooms. 3.By preserving the original layout and features of the buildings, the modern aesthetic as a whole brings each MIXPACE space to having it’s own unique qualities.

Within just six months, MIXPACE's average occupancy has exceeded 60% and has been reported by over 50 media outlets. This past June, MIXPACE Mandela was honored by 《安邸》 AD100 and awarded for having China’s most high quality design and construction space. It was widely recognized by others in the industry.

This new community is located in the residential area of downtown, a historical part of Shanghai. The process of it’s urban renewal provides a fusion working space for the working class to fuse diverse communities. MIXPACE is not only it’s own domain of design, its also apart of a deep transformation between traditional and modern work style. In three years time, MIXPACE will be the new cutting-edge way of supporting a healthy work and life style for all of life’s different beats and rhythms.

MIXPACE has introduced agile design into design transformation. Agile Development is commonly seen in today’s modern world and is described as a process of constant doing, interacting, and updating. After the transformation of the space to its first edition, we will continue to update the office spaces with higher efficiency to meet the needs of the 2.0 and 3.0 people.

The initial heart of MIXPACE, is that although the building will be renewed, we hope to keep its integrity while meeting the needs of future work and lifestyle. MIXPACE Mandela’s appearance in this industry has become a theme in modern renovation. It also has caused MIXPACE to be widely promoted and recognized as a field of high design power.
