The residential unit of 440 sq.ft. in Discovery Bay is designed for a pair of lovers. To make it a place where those reside would feel like on vacation, we choose a modern rustic style. Beige wall-coverings knitted by linen at the corridor stands in contrast with the raw tone of cemented walls in the living room. When you turn your head up and look at the ceiling once you step in or out of the bedroom, one would surprisingly discover another element that percusses the rustic style, the wooden beam. There is a sliding table for dining attached to a set of sideboards near the entrance. Space is utilised so as to create a perfect venue for family, friends and lovers. The walnut sideboard half the height of a man serves well to store all you need for a party, such as alcohol or snacks. As its surface is coated with coarse materials, touching on it provides one with grassy comfort. Light bulbs are placed in communication with the woody accent of furniture. Naked wires of light bulbs casually flowered in the air create a sense of nostalgia. Similar detail resembling a touch of planned casualness can be found in the toilet. Mosaic assembled out of smooth and glittering decorative materials builds up the wall, reflecting light by its stone-like surface. Last but not least, the function of interior space is well-defined by colours and edges. The kitchen is painted cobalt blue, while the working area in the common is delineated by bookshelves. To highlight, the angular shape of the living room makes it a difficult task to make full of space, but we transform weakness into strength by visually creating a ‘corridor’ that draws one’s attention for work. The floral furnishings nearby can alleviate one’s exhausted psyche when necessary, too
