CITY Vanity Set is an innovative multi-purpose bathroom system that addresses the urbanites' needs for compact living solutions. It transforms the bathroom into a living space, allowing people to perform their daily bathing, cleansing and well-being rituals as well as housekeeping activities. With its minimal aesthetics, CITY blends perfectly into the bathroom architecture. The combination of basin, vanity, water outlet, and mirror cabinet provides flexible usage and storage maximization. The basin, made of artificial stone, features a large surface area, divided into three functional zones - wet, semi-wet and dry on which people can place different types of items. The inside bowl is purposefully large to offer enhanced convenience. The drain, usually located in the center of basins, was relocated to the back-right corner, allowing the vanity to be more compact while having maximized space inside. The vanity features vertical drawers, easing accessibility from the sides. Our specially designed acrylic boxes can be used inside the drawers to tailor the storage space according to different needs. The water outlet is mounted under the mirror cabinet to free up space onto the basin. It combines one EasySET knob to easily switch the water on/off and control the volume, a thermostatic handle to set the temperature, and a swiveling spout with a pull-out function which provides flexibility and great benefits when cleansing or grooming. The mirror cabinet comes with adjustable shelves. It carries purposeful technologies such as lighting and anti-fog. Inside, the plugs can be used to charge electronics and mobile devices.

With the rapidly-growing urbanization phenomenon in Asia, people are willing to sacrifice their private space for affordability, work proximity, and a flexible lifestyle. Considering the different types of housings, we wanted to maximize the range of consumers who can benefit from CITY’s thoughtful design. CITY Vanity Set comes in different sizes and configurations, as well as different materials, colors, and finishes, giving consumers the ability to choose the right solution based on their aspirations and lifestyle. Furthermore, we have carefully chosen materials and finishes to ensure durability and long-lasting usability.

CITY challenged the entire organization, helping us to rethink product categories and move the portfolio to a new direction, thinking products as bigger eco-systems. The design team has worked alongside with engineers, marketing, business, and manufacture teams to ensure alignment from concept to the final solution.

The teams from the different functions worked closely together to understand consumers’ behaviors and gather insights, aiming to be relevant to the brand from a portfolio stand point, yet addressing real pain points identified during the researches. CITY is an innovative multi-purpose vanity set that addresses the needs of compact living solutions. We have leveraged the expertise of our fellow designers in Japan with long experience in designing space optimizing solutions, and we have relied heavily on prototyping to ensure the balance between simplicity, aesthetics and functionality.

The development process as a whole took around 24 months, since the very initial discussions within the senior leadership team to the official presentation to public audiences. It was a team effort not only to come up with an innovative and relevant solution but to invest in our own new set of technologies capable of delivering true benefits to users. Among the new technologies created for CITY, we have the new under mirror mounted faucet, the new basin design and technology, the along the wall drainage system, and many others.

CITY Vanity Set required the company to adopt a cross-category mindset and rethink the way it develops and sells products. The design is sophisticated and minimal, bringing timelessness to the category. By using the EasySET and Thermostatic technologies, we offer more precise controls of water flow and temperature, helping to reduce the waste of energy and water.
