The clock completely overturns the traditional way of telling the time. Different from the common clock or watch, which presents time on a 2-dimensional surface, Revolve demonstrates time in a 3D space. It makes a dramatic sense of the clock as an object existing in our daily life. Each tier from bottom to top represents hour, minute and second, respectively. People can intuitively notice the time-moving via these three different speeds of circular motion. On the surface of the clock, the dot stands for one-unit and the line stands for five-unit. It has a beautiful harmony of colours, shapes and materials.

The interface of a traditional clock is in two-dimensional while we introduced three-dimensional interface into Revolve, which changed the way of how the user interacted with the clock.

Revolve promotes the development of clock industry, which stays unchanged for a long time. Since we have invented this new mechanical system for a three-dimensional interface display clock, we believe more and more new form clocks will be designed with this kind of system. Clocks will physically be an important home appliance again.

When we were doing this project, we didn't give any limitations in materials, process or price so that designers can make full use of their capacities to design the new product. When the concept became mature, we began to think what kind of mechanical system can make it work and how it could be mass produced. We do not want the design to be limited to the existing clock structure or the existing production process, but rather to design a new structure to promote the new process development. Working in this way, we invented a mechanical structure of the clock and applied for an invention and innovation patents. we are still exploring a better manufacture process, which can help us to reduce the cost and production time while increasing the precision.

Aim: design a new way to present time In fact, revolve is a part of our project called Tri-chapter, whose whole design inspirations came from the universe. We hope the products in this project can make the effect of pulling people away from the time & space currently inhabited to enjoy the power of tranquillity. Triangular and circular shapes, combining point, line and surface elements are being played in both two-dimension and three-dimension to build sharp yet mellow forms with sleek lines and sinuous surfaces. We wanted that, time, such an abstract object can be embodied, visualised, and people can feel the presence of it. Revolve was born in this background. In order to make the finest product, we made many prototypes to explore a better mechanical structure to show the time. Currently, we use the normal movement of the clock with a bearing linkage structure, which is an innovation. Therefore, Revolve is not just an innovation of how to present time but also a shape and structure innovation of the clock.
