In Hong Kong where a foot of land is worth an inch of gold, every inch of land is fully utilized, it makes interior space design become very important. The client of this project is a hospitable couple who love to gather with friends. Amid the epidemic, dining in at restaurants is only allowed until 10pm and no more than 4 people per table. Therefore our client have an idea to renovate their house and turn it into a party house! In order to build a “gathering friendly” home, the gathering area of the whole house can be distinct and also can be integrated. Design team have put a lot of effort into the space design! As soon as you walk through the hallway, you can see a large decorative wall with marble pattern to highlight the dining area. The stone material adds a grounding quality and brings a classic sophistication to room. There are two hidden glass sliding door in the marble wall, the right door is leading to the kitchen and left one is to the corridor door. The corridor can be used as a part of the kitchen that makes the space can be fully utilized. The kitchen and dining room area have undergone key changes. The original kitchen structure is not “guest friendly” enough, therefore the original kitchen and the suite of domestic helper were first demolished, and then remodeled into an L-shaped open kitchen. It makes the host can still communicate with guests easily while cooking. To balance the functionality and aesthetics of the design, the open kitchen is not facing the living room, but facing the part of the secondary living room which is a home theater area . There is a four- folding door for separating the kitchen and the secondary living room area, which can be opened and closed under different situations -the door can be closed when cooking or enjoying music in the secondary living room, and during the party time, the door can be opened to merge the two areas to became a huge gathering space. White plain doesn’t have to be boring! Designers have used different white texture to create an elegant and stylish design. By using vary finishes and materials, such as white marble , sponge-like white wallpaper and white strip cabinets, with furniture and carpets, all make this design a timeless elegance that is dramatic yet understated.
