The Bo Touch Bin is a great example of team effort within Brabantia. All necessary disciplines were combined in a cross-functional team, led by the innovation department. So not only the innovation department but also marketing, sales, logistics, production etc were involved. Of course it all started with getting the insights from our target audience, that’s who we develop our sustainable solutions for!

Extensive market research has shown us that consumers are looking for a beautiful bin that looks more like a piece of furniture, whereas most bins look very functional. And next to that, we know that separating waste is getting more and more important. So the flow started with doing desktop research and visiting all kinds of design fairs, like Salone di Mobile in Milan. This created this break-trough design in the waste bin category.

We do not share information about investments but we can say this has been a major innovation in our company for which we also had to invest in new tooling, processes and procedures. It is hard to say how long the whole process took since we start innovations with analyzing big trends and transforming them into beautiful and sustainable solutions. But from the concrete kick-off with our engineers until a ready for production design it took us somewhere between 1 and 2 years.

"As said, we are very proud of the result, a design piece of furniture on elegant legs that can be used to collect and separate your waste. All this made in a sustainable way, for which we got the cradle-to-cradle bronze certificate. The first feedback from our consumer panel is great, but it will be launched globally in October 2017 so it is a bit too early to be able to mention more clear results. We are convinced this will make our consumers very happy and will be an outstanding example in our industry how |design and sustainability can go hand in hand. "
